Derby Days

Yesterday was Derby Days here in Yamhill. It is an old fashoned Soap Box Derby Car race. This year was the 55th year of the event and it was really a lot of fun and there was a great turn out. This video is of Boaz in the frog jumping competition. Boaz named his frog Boaz.

Elizabeth and Abigail Barker were there for Derby Days. Elizabeth entered a frog in the competition and she was only 1 inch away from going into the finals. Her frog had 3 jumps with a total of 128 inches! I have never seen so many huge frogs. A little boy was in the way while Elizabeth was jumping her frog so I couldnt get a good video, but I got a good picture of her holding it! She named her frog Elizabeth. Abigail stayed very close to her Antie and Uncle and wasnt interested in holding a frog!

Jacoby's frog decided that it wanted to be tame or somehting because once he sat it down it decided that it didnt want to jump. The kids cant touch the frogs they have to get them to jump without touching it, so Jacoby had a hard time getting his to go, it was very stuborn! He named his frog Joe. They all wanted to play with the frogs much longer than they got to

We were given a 33 year old Soap Box Derby Car a month ago so we drew names from the kids in our church that were old enough to drive it to choose a driver. A boy named Zack got to drive it and he did a great job. He got 3rd place! He actually tied for 2nd place, and when they had a race off, they kept tying, so they decided to do a coin toss and he lost in the coin toss. But 3rd place is really good for a 33 year old car that we did nothing to except give it a new paint job and squirt WD40 on the wheels! He had a really good time driving it, and Lance was his crew chief.

Our Church entered a float in the parade and we won the Judges Sward and also First Place for our float. But I forgot to take my cameral to the parade so I dont have any pictures of the float to post.

Next year you should try to make it over for Derby Days, it was a great time.
